Nivel de actividad física y la percepción de la imagen corporal de estudiantes - una revisión sistemática

Abstract

Introduction: during adolescence, several physical changes take place and with the onset of these changes, the concern about physical appearance increases. During this period, the risk of discontentment with body image is high and, thus, influences self-image and self-esteem, which may, in turn, generate possible psychological disorders. Objective: to verify the correlation between physical activity level and students’ self-perception of their body image perceived at school, through a systematic review. Methodology: a systematic review was conducted which contemplated articles that have assessed the level of development in students’ body image and physical disorders at schools, published in English, Spanish and Portuguese, since the year 2000. The search in articles was carried out in the SciELO, PubMed, Web of Science, Science Direct and BIREME databases, using the intersection of three sets of bibliographic search terms: body image, physical activity and schools. Results: out of 126 articles analyzed, only one article was found to relate physical activity level to body image. Conclusion: no correlation between physical activity level and students’ self-perception of their image at school was found (not directly quoted as such by authors), but it can be diagnosed that physical dissatisfaction causes adolescents to work out excessively.
