Nivel de actividad física y funcionalidad en adultos mayores

Abstract

This research addresses the issue of the elderly, focusing on the context of functionality and on the importance of systematically carrying out physical activity. (n = 60) elderly people were assessed, (n = 21) females and (n = 39 ) male participants from the Physical Therapy Clinic belonging to St. Thomas University in Valdivia. The main objective of the research was to describe the physical activity variables and function in active elderly people, belonging to rehabilitation programs. The results obtained in functionality showed that 91.7% (n: 55) classified into the category of ” independent”, while 8.3% (n: 5) classified in the “slightly dependent” one. As for the level of physical activity, 51.6% (n = 31) were within the moderate level, 36.7% (n = 22) or inactive low level and 11.7% (n = 7) presented a high level of physical activity.The results showed that there are benefits at the descriptive level of the physical activity and functiona-lity variable in elderly people, despite the aging process.
